A three-member gang struck at a finance company nearby Tirupur on Saturday and made off with gold ornaments weighing 1,074 sovereigns and Rs2.34 lakh after tying up the staff, police said.
As soon as the doors of Muthoot Finance, a gold loan company, were opened around 8.45am, three men on the pretext of pledging ornaments, entered it and immediately tied the manager with a rope and then the woman sweeper, they said.
After some time, when three staff members entered, the gang tied them up also at knife point and took away the gold and cash kept in an almirah on the first floor, they said.
Of the total 3,490 sovereigns of gold ornaments, the gang managed to take away 1,074 sovereigns. An alert has been sounded on the district borders and special teams formed to nab the gang members, West Zone IG Vanniyaperumal said.
On information police rushed to the spot with sniffer dog and finger print experts. Tirupur Superintendent of Police Balakrishnan visited the spot and held detailed inquiry with the staff, police said.
