Trust Ekta Kapoor to do the unthinkable. The sequel to Kya Kool Hain Hum, starring Tusshar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh will be released right alongside the launch of the IPL’s 2012 season. Titled Kya Super Cool Hain Hum, Ekta has given a clear mandate to the sequel team that they need to have the film ready for an April 6 release, two days after the IPL kicks off on April 4.
While Ekta seems to be flying in the face of an accepted industry trend, trade watchers say this may just be an inspired move. “The hoopla about IPL being a major threat for movies is all hogwash,” says an eminent trade source. “Since there is hardly any major film which is looking at arriving during IPL, Kya Super Kool Hain Hum gets a nearly two-month-long open run. Ekta is a master strategist.”
Looking at how well Tanu Weds Manu and F.A.L.T.U did right in the midst of the World Cup mania (earning close to `40 and 30 crores respectively), it seems Ekta has her move well thought out indeed.
If the move works, it can only spell more good news for Riteish and Tusshar who seem to have finally found their niche with ensemble projects.
