The email trail into the Delhi high court blast has hit a stumbling block with the NIA sleuths discovering that the terror email purportedly sent by the Indian Mujahideen (IM) and traced to West Bengal was masked using a proxy Internet
protocol address. A top NIA official said that the person who had been picked up and questioned in this regard in the state did not send the terror email. Further, the NIA sleuths are still trying to track the second IM mail, also sent from the ID chotoominani5@gmail.com [1], which warned of a bigger terror strike in Ahmedabad. The NIA has sought details from google since the gmail server is located in the United States , an official said.
Meanwhile, clueless about the perpetrators of the blast even after a week, the NIA has doubled the cash reward to `10 lakhs for anyone providing information on the blast .
“The aim is to encourage people to share information with us,” an official remarked. However, investigators confess that the modus operandi of masking the identity while sending the terror email shows that the senders of the terror email had carefully planned their move. This has made the task even more difficult for the NIA to unravel the real plot and catch hold of the culprits.
Notably, the twin emails purportedly sent by the IM also claimed that the NIA and Delhi police will find it very difficult to trace its senders. “We are not ruling out anything at this stage but we are hopeful of a breakthrough soon,” a senior NIA official said.
