A local court on Thursday sought a report from the Tihar officials on the health condition of Amar Singh, who was sent to the jail on Tuesday, while hearing a bail plea of the Rajya Sabha MP for his alleged involvement in the 2008 cash-for-vote case.
“Let them (Tihar authorities) say something in writing on his (Amar Singh) health condition. I am calling for a report on it, to see his medical position and how he has been kept,” special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal said.
After a brief hearing on Mr Singh’s interim bail plea, seeking relief on health grounds, Justice Sehgal said that she would ask for the report from the jail authorities.
The former Samajwadi Party general secretary’s counsel Hariharan had pleaded for the bail on the medical grounds claiming that Mr Singh was lodged in a normal cell and had to share a toilet with other inmates.
Citing a recent report of Mr Singh’s doctor in Singapore, Mr Hariharan said, “Dr Lee says there is a risk of contracting infection in a crowded area. If drugs are not regulated properly, chances of Mr Singh contracting infection become very high. He has to be in a sterile condition.”
