Karan Johar certainly knows how to make people feel special, not just on his television chat shows, but in his cinema as well. On August 16, the director returned to the camera after almost two years to start shooting for his next venture Student Of The Year. And to make his lead actor Varun Dhawan feel special, he chose his dad David Dhawan’s birthday to mark the occasion.
A family friend of the Dhawans said, “Karan’s way of showing respect makes us all feel so proud. David is immensely happy that his son is being launched by such a special person. And with Varun facing the camera for the first time on his dad’s birthday, the moment becomes all the more special.”
For David himself, it was a big moment to see his son stepping into an actor’s shoes. “Varun has given me a great birthday gift by impressing Karan and qualifying for the lead role in his film. What more could I have asked for?” said an emotional David, adding, “To be launched by one of the biggest banners in the country is a dream come true for Varun, and I am grateful to Karan for showing so much faith in him.”
But David has no plans of being an interfering influence in his son’s career. “I am myself quite busy with the shoot of Rascals, with only 50 days left for the film’s release. And in any case, I don’t think I need to interfere at all. Varun is already in safe hands,” said David.
Looks like Karan is truly living up to what once he had preached: “It’s all about loving your parents.”
