The Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence to two brothers form Delhi for brutal murder of their cousin by stabbing him repeatedly with knife and scissors in a fight erupting on a petty issue of parking scooter in front of their shop on the Rakshabandhan day 18 years ago.
It was a coincidence that the judgment, confirming life imprisonment for Rajinder and Dharambir for the murder of their cousin Gobind at Shadipur main market in West Delhi, was pronounced by the top court a day before the Raksha bandhan. They were also awarded seven-year imprisonment for attempt to murder for attacking Gobind’s brothers Murari and Ashok and Murari’s wife Saroj.
Though all of them were once a well-knit joint family having common business but few years before the incident, they had fallen apart and the fight was the cause of strained relations and the parking of scooter and some altercation of Rajinder and Dharambir earlier with Saroj proved to be the immediate cause of the crime, a bench of Justice H.S. Bedi and Gyan Sudha Misra recorded in their judgement. Both the parties had separate shops close to each other in the market.

CID: Sushanta may face lie detector test

Aug. 13: The criminal investigation department (CID) is weighing the option of conducting a polygraph test on arrested CPI(M) strongman and MLA Sushanta Ghosh.
The development came as several incriminating proofs, including ammunitions, suggesting his link with criminal activities, were recovered during search operation at his three residences on Saturday.
During the interrogation, Mr Ghosh is making contradictory statements to confuse the investigators. Several discrepancies have also been detected in his statements.
The scientific lie-detector examination will hold the key as “an evidence admissible before court” if he continues to deny his role in the slaughter of seven Trinamul Congress activists on September 22 in 2002 even after the recovery of “incriminating evidence”, a senior CID officer disclosed. In that case, the state detective agency would have to seek help of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory or any other Central investigation agency.
