The CBI, which is probing the 2G spectrum scam, has once again started scrutiny of the bank statements of certain telecom companies.
The agency recently submitted bank statements of certain telecom companies in the CBI special court as evidence. Besides, agency has also started scrutiny the “demand drafts” and “bank guarantee”, submitted by certain telecom companies for receiving Letter of Intent (LoI) for the Unified Access Service (UAS) licences again.
“Probe by the CBI has established that some of the ‘favourite’ telecom companies allegedly submitted the bank guarantee for the license fees a day after receiving the LoI from the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) during the tenure of former telecom minister A. Raja,” sources said. As per set norms, demand drafts and bank guarantee required for the UAS licences were supposed to be submitted by the telecom companies on the same day after receiving the LoIs.
Sources further said, “Some of the companies were allowed to submit the drafts on the same day, while the bank guarantees were received a day after. The agency has already recorded statements of some officials of the private telecom companies in this regard”. The agency’s probe has also revealed that officials of certain companies were issued LoIs at around 4 pm on January 10, 2008, at Sanchar Bhavan.
