The Delhi government is likely to cancel land allotment to about 2,000 businessmen in industrial estates in the city for not setting up factories for which land was allotted to them. After sending notices and extension of deadlines, the last expiring on Thursday, the government is likely to cancel the allotment of erring entrepreneurs.
The government had allotted 22,749 plots between 1999 to 2006 in various industrial estates for shifting the factories in residential areas.
The government is likely to re-allot the 2,000 plots to genuine entrepreneurs after cancellation. The issue was raised in the Delhi Assembly on a number of occasions. The BJP had been charging the government for having failed to provide basic infrastructure in the industrial estates causing hardships to the factory owners there.
The government had issued notices to the plot allottees in 2007 as they failed to set up factories.

Court slaps `500 fine on landlord

July 3: A city court has slapped a fine of `500 on a landlord for not carrying out mandatory verification of his tenant.
After finding that the landlord, Surender Kumar, failed in his duty in carrying out his tenant’s mandatory verification in contravention of the December 2010 order of the police, metropolitan magistrate Sandeep Garg held him guilty.
The metropolitan magistrate, however, took a lenient view and just slapped a fine of `500 on Kumar and let him off.
Kumar was charged under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which prescribes an imprisonment upto six months or a fine of up to `1,000 or both in case of disobedience of an order issued by a public servant.
The court has only slapped the fine after considering that the accused, Kumar, had admitted his guilt and moved an application for plea bargaining saying he was the sole bread earner of his family.
