Dabangg and My Name is Khan won top honours at the 12th IIFA awards here, with the Salman Khan starrer scooping up six trophies in the popular category, while the best actor and director awards went to Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar respectively.
Dabangg, which was the highest grosser last year, was adjudged best film of 2010. Anushka Sharma won her maiden best actress award for Band Baaja Baraat.
Accepting his award, SRK said his role in My Name is Khan was about a character who carried an identity for many years and was not able to reveal it to others. Said Johar: “Khan has taught me the power of love and humanity.”
Sonakshi Sinha won the best debut female award for her performance in Dabangg. The best playback singer (male) award went to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for Tere mast mast do nain, while the hit item number Munni Badnam Hui got Mamta Sharma the best playback singer (female) award.
