The government on Friday expressed disappointment at Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Rana’s acquittal by a US court on charges of plotting the Mumbai carnage. Sources said the government will soon take a decision on filing a chargesheet against Rana and Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Tayeeba (LeT) operative David Coleman Headley in an Indian court.
In a statement issued here, secretary (internal security) in the ministry of home affairs U.K. Bansal said, “We are disappointed that Rana was acquitted on the count of conspiracy to provide material support to the Mumbai terrorist attacks.” However, it must be remembered that Rana was tried in a Chicago court in accordance with US law, he said, adding criminal trials in the US are jury trials and there are special rules governing such jury trials.
