Pakistan must curb monster of terror, says PM

In the wake of disclosures by Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley about ISI's role in the 26/11 attack, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday asked Pakistan to effectively curb the jihadi outfits and underlined it is in Islamabad's interest to control the monster of terror it has created.

"We must convince Pakistan that it is in their own interest that they must help us in tackling the problem of terror in our region. Those jihadi outfits who target India as a destination for their terror, must be effectively curbed and dealt with," Manmohan Singh told reporters on board a special aircraft on his way back from a six-day visit to Ethiopia and Tanzania.

"The more I see what is happening in Pakistan, the more I am convinced that the Pakistan's leadership must now wake up and recognise that the terror machine is not working to anybody's advantage," the Prime Minister said.

He added that Headley has not 'revealed' anything that India did not know in a US court where he testified about role of Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI and terror outfit LeT in the carnage.

"Well, the trial of David Headley has not brought out anything new that we did not know," Singh said.

"The trial (in Chicago) is still on, we will study it when the trial is completed. But as I said it has not revealed anything which we do not know," he added.
