Rejecting reports of political violence, chief minister Mamata Banerjee once again told the police to do its job impartially. She also cautioned the people from taking law into their own hands. On being asked about the reports of political violence, Ms Banerjee said, “There is no incident of political violence in the state.”
The chief minister also reminded that she was repeatedly telling since 2009 that huge illegal arms were being stockpiled in the state. “I also informed the Centre. The state government should have intensified the operations to seize illegal arms much earlier. However, it didn’t for political reasons. I have asked the police to act impartially. The police will take action against the offenders irrespective of political colours,” Ms Banerjee announced.
This statement of Ms Banerjee is very significant, especially earlier as the main Opposition leader in the state, she had repeatedly alleged that the police was not impartial and was always guided by the CPI(M) leaders.
In the evening, the chief minister also held a meeting with all employees’ federations, including the CPI(M)’s coordination committee, in the Writers’ Buildings.
“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. I have sought cooperation from them,” Ms Banerjee quipped.
She also informed that city mayor Sovan Chatterjee will come to the Writers’ Buildings every evening for a coordination meeting with state urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim.

CID inspects arms loot site

May 23: A day after the seizure of the Insas rifle, which was looted from the Silda EFR camp, a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers inspected Burinthanmore ground, the place of recovery of the arms and ammunition, at Enayetpur in West Midnapore on Monday in a renewed effort to probe the suspected link of the CPI(M) in the camp attack case.
Additional director-general of police (CID) Raj Kanojia said that the CID team was led by special superintendent of police (west & north) Ashoke Prasad.
