The water resources department has finally started work on laying down 18 kilometres of pipeline to provide water to the Keoladev National Park (KNP). According to the authorities, the project will be completed in the next six months and it will ensure smooth supply of water to the park listed as a World Heritage Site. The project is aimed at diverting flood water from the neighbouring areas to the park. The park is in dire need of water to maintain its heritage character while water supplied from Panchna dam has already dried up. But the E-block of the park still has some quantity of water.

Pak violates ceasefire again

May 15: Indian and Pakistan troops exchanged small arms fire consecutively on the second day along the International Border in Jammu sector as Pakistan Rangers on Sunday morning too breached truce and targeted forward Nikowal border outpost of the BSF. The BSF, which on Saturday had suffered a fatal casualty at Budhwar BOP in R.S. Pura in unprovoked firing from Pakistan violating ceasefire, retaliated with equal force, resulting in heavy exchange of fire between the two sides.
The firing continued for half-an-hour. There was no report of losses on the Indian side. The BSF had sought a flag meeting with the Pakistani Rangers to register protest against their unprovoked firing which claimed the life of a BSF jawan on Saturday.

EU cancels Geelani meet
Srinagar, May 15: In an apparent fall out of holding funeral prayers for Osama bin Laden, an European Union delegation snubbed hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani by cancelling a scheduled meeting.
“A meeting was initially planned for the May 14 with Syed Ali Shah Geelani, but given the latest events, the EU delegation considers it inopportune to hold the meeting,” a statement from the delegation said. Although the EU delegation did not given any reason for the cancellation of the meeting, it is widely believed that the funeral prayers held by Mr Geelani on May 6 for Bin Laden had put off the plans of the visitors. —PTI
