A Delhi court has asked city police commissioner B.K. Gupta to initiate a departmental inquiry against an inspector for allegedly botching-up probe into a murder case that resulted in acquittal of a “dreaded criminal”.
Additional sessions judge (ASJ) Sanjeev Aggarwal asked Delhi police Commissioner B.K. Gupta to initiate a departmental probe against Inspector Mir Singh saying his “lacklustre” probe resulted in acquittal of “dreaded criminal” Shyam Sunder from the charge of murdering alleged gangster Sandeep Hooda.
“It appears that the deficiencies in investigation had occurred either due to lack of knowledge and training or apathy. It appears the IO was either not properly equipped in carrying out the investigation or he left such lacunae for other reasons,” the court said.
The court also directed the police chief to ensure the probe into murder cases is entrusted only to proficient police officers.
“The superior police officials should also see to it that the investigations of homicide cases should only be entrusted to the properly trained investigating officers and not to the additional SHO/SHO’s posted at a particular police station in a perfunctory manner,” the court said.
