The BJP top brass has asked its chief ministers to go in for social audit as well as cautioned them to keep a close eye on issues related to corruption.
A two-day conclave of chief ministers of BJP-ruled states began in the capital on Monday.
Major stress will be given on good governance, how to increase party’s vote-bank and the major political development taken place since the last such meeting that took place in Mumbai in 2010.
The party leaders will also be discussing “step-motherly” treatment of Centre towards the BJP and NDA-ruled states as well as the misuse of the CBI. The BJP top-brass will also be asking its CMs to dispel the misgivings people have on the “Hindutva” issue.
While chief ministers of Gujarat, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand were present in the meeting, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had to stay back due to local body election. He will attend the conclave on Tuesday. Deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi and some state unit presidents and senior ministers from NDA-ruled states are also participating in the conclave.
In his inaugural speech, Mr Gadkari said the BJP has 36 per cent vote-base in its states while the figure in Congress-ruled states is at 31 per cent.
Though he appreciated the various schemes and programmes implemented in the BJP-ruled states, the BJP chief also underlined that improvements are needed in sectors like irrigation, agriculture, alleviating the lives of those Below the Poverty Line and preventing infant mortality.
Mr Gadkari also claimed that some established government institutions like National Development Council and Inter-state Council have been made “completely defunct” by the UPA government which is engaged in “eroding” the federal structure of the country.
Party’s chief spokesperson, Ravi Shankar Prasad, who briefed the media said, “Mr Gadkari said that all chief ministers and ministers should not forget that they are also party workers and are stakeholders in the party’s growth.”
As part of its aim to reach out to the minorities, the BJP will also ensure that there is good governance in Haj committees and wakf boards in the states where it is in power.
Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley told the chief ministers that India had entered the phase where there is a two-pole coalition.
“He said the third front pioneers, the Left parties, will be reduced to columnists of the UPA government after the results of the Assembly elections are announced,” Mr Prasad said.
