In a clear reference to India, Pakistan’s foreign secretary Salman Bashir said Thursday that “no country” should even think of “surgical strikes” inside Pakistan on the lines of the US commando raid on Abbottabad early Monday morning in which Osama bin Laden was killed.
“The armed forces can defend Pakistan, no one should have misgivings about it. There cannot be any surgical strikes inside Pakistan”, Mr Bashir said.
Mr Bashir told reporters that US allegations on Pakistani intelligence agencies’ links with Al Qaeda were “baseless”.
He added: “Osama (is) a thing of the past, but if these kinds of acts are repeated, the results can be devastating.”
The Pakistan government has, meanwhile, started a manhunt for Taliban supremo Mullah Omar who it fears might well be hiding in the country like Bin Laden, official sources said.
