MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi’s health has improved and his vital parameters, including blood pressure, pulse rate and urine output, were “stable” on Monday.
Authorities at the Care Hospital said that though he was still not out of danger, there had been no further surgeries on Mr Owaisi and the need to bring in experts from other cities or abroad didn’t arise.
The hospital’s bulletin stated that Mr Owaisi was slightly better on Monday though he continued to be on respiratory and renal support. “Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi is conscious and his vital stats are stable. His condition is closely been monitored by the team of doctors,” stated the hospital’s director, Dr Ram Papa Rao, on Monday evening.
On Monday, five relatives of Mohammed Pahelwan, including Esa Yafai, Yaheya Yafai, Saif Yafai and Haneef Yafai, surrendered before Task Force sleuths. So far 11 of the suspects are in police custody and the roles of three more persons are being looked into. The police said that they would be apprehended over the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, Central Crime Station investigators who are questioning Pahelwan, the main suspect in the attack, said that he had been in touch with the attackers on phone before and after the attack.
The police seized mobile phones of the accused. After verifying the call details, they confirmed that Pahelwan was the key conspirator who gave directions to his men. Investigators said that the accused had planned to eliminate Mr Owaisi whenever he visited the Barkas locality.
The attackers had used licensed weapons to fire at Mr Owaisi. However, the police and forensic experts failed to collect gunshot residue from the wrist and hand of Abdullah, currently undergoing treatment at Malakpet Yasodha. He and Wahlan, also in custody, had shot Mr Owaisi.
When contacted, APFSL director O.N. Murthy said that they haven’t taken any gunshot residue from the hands of suspects though they had collected articles from the scene of offence.
Investigations found that one of the guns used by the accused was a licensed weapon of Abdullah. The other gun, used by Wahlan, had been burrowed from a licensed weapon holder.
Abdullah had an arms licence to hold a .32 revolver and he had purchased it from the Rafiq armoury in 2003. The weapon seized from the crime scene tallied with that of Abdullah’s licence.
The police will send the weapons to the AP Forensic Science Laboratory for ballistic tests.
