Karim Morani, director of Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd (CFPL) and a co-accused in the 2G spectrum scam, on Monday moved the Delhi high court seeking anticipatory bail.
Anticipating apprehension that he would be arrested by the CBI like other five corporate honchos named in the first chargesheet once he appeared before a special CBI
court, Morani has moved the Delhi HC seeking anticipatory bail plea through his lawyer, Siddhartha, in the court of Justice Ajit Bharihoke, who is likely to take up the matter on Tuesday.
“Protect my personal liberty and freedom,” Morani said in his petition. In his petition, Morani has sought a direction for the special court that he should be released immediately on his arrest when he complies with the summons.
Earlier, special CBI judge O.P. Saini has issued summons to Morani and three others directing them to appear before it on May 6.
Seeking anticipatory bail for his client, Mr Siddhartha said, “He (Karim) has nothing to do with the prime accused and former telecom minister A. Raja, chargesheeted in the 2G spectrum case. The charges, which were slapped by the CBI, against him are baseless and false. He is merely an entertainer, nothing else than that.”
Morani has been named as an accused along with Ms Kanimozhi, Sharad Kumar, Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal in the second chargesheet.
