The Delhi high court on Monday sought the assistance of a city government dispensary for taking blood samples of veteran Congress leader N.D. Tiwari and a 31-year-old youth for their DNA test to ascertain the youth's paternity.
"The Delhi high court registry is directed to issue notice to the chief medical officer (CMO) of a dispensary here to discuss the modality for taking blood sample of three persons concerned (Tiwari, Rohit Shekhar and his mother Ujwala Sharma) on May 10," joint registrar Deepak Garg said.
The court "tentatively" fixed June 1 for taking blood sample of N.D. Tiwari and others.
The counsel for the Congress leader, however, vehemently opposed the fixing of date, saying "he is a 85-year-old man and a busy political person and hence the date has to be fixed after taking his consent."
Meanwhile, the Centre for DNA, Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) at Hyderabad sent its response along with the blood collection kit to the court for taking the blood sample of the three persons including Tiwari.
The court earlier had sought the CDFD assistance in fixing modalities for DNA test of Tiwari to ascertain the claim of Rohit Shekhar that he is the leader's biological son.
Joint registrar Deepak Garg had sought CDFD's response to the notice by Monday.
The response of the laboratory was required as to how it would go about the test and how much time will it take in ascertaining the outcome, Garg had said.
The joint registrar would record evidence to enable the regular court to decide the plea of Rohit Shekhar that he be declared the son of the veteran Congress leader.
Justice Gita Mittal had modified an earlier order asking CDFD, instead of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), to conduct the DNA test.
