Challenging Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Cabinet colleagues to say that the contents of the draft report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on 2G spectrum scam were not based on facts, the main Opposition BJP on Friday attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of “direct complicity” in the 2G spectrum issue.
Senior BJP leader and one of the members of the current PAC, Yashwant Sinha said the draft report should be submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to expose the UPA “coalition of the corrupt”.
The draft report, which was leaked, had criticised the Prime Minister Office (PMO) as well as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his “desire” to keep the PMO at “arm’s length” on the 2G spectrum allocation issue. The report had also questioned the role of the finance ministry, then headed by P. Chidambaram.
“I am charging the Prime Minister with direct complicity in this matter. I am charging the then finance minister with direct complicity. They have not only not done their constitutional duty but willy-nilly they have become a party to this scam,” Mr Sinha said.
Strongly condemning the behaviour of the Congress, the DMK and “their new-found allies” the SP and BSP members of the PAC in Thursday’s meeting of the committee, Mr Sinha said,
“We are all hurt by the conduct of the members. This is perhaps the first time that a parliamentary committee has behaved in this manner.”
