The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a clear report from five expelled Independent MLAs of Karnataka whether they had at any point of time attended BJP’s meetings and functions, which were purely related to its internal party matters. A bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph sought the details in view of the case revolving
around Karnataka Vidhan Sabha Speaker’s finding that they had “joined” BJP and were governed by the whip issued by the party, which was cited the main ground for their expulsion from the House and the same upheld by the state high court.
Senior advocates K.K. Venugopal and P.P. Rao, appearing for the five independents, questioned the Speaker’s finding that on no point of time the five legislators, who extended support to the B.S. Yeddyurappa government and were made ministers, had joined the BJP.
