The brother of Karim Morani, Cineyug Films Pvt. Ltd (CFPL) founder and Bollywood producer, has told the CBI that his brother was authorised to take all the decisions and steps in respect of any kind of loan or investment in any company and his brother was not in the wrong side of the law.
Mr Ali Morani’s statement, which is exclusively available with this newspaper, was recorded under Section 161 of the CrPC by the CBI, which was later submitted to the special CBI judge O.P. Saini, who is specifically assigned to hear the 2G spectrum scam.
Karim along with his brother and three others are the list of promoters and directors in the CFPL.
As per law, this statement will help in ascertaining the case against the accused person(s) while framing of charges against them. However, these submissions to the probe agency, CBI, will be cross-checked thoroughly by the counsel of the accused persons during the trial. Forty-eight-year-old Ali, listed as the 120th prosecution witness by the CBI in the chargesheet, disclosed that Karim, on behalf of CFPL, extended a loan of `200 crores to Kalaignar TV Pvt. Ltd in Chennai.
Ali told the CBI that his elder brother (Karim) has informed him that he was mobilising the said amount through his childhood friend namely Vinod Goenka and Shahid Usman Balwa of DB Group. Mr Ali also revealed that Karim has negotiated the entire proposal with the concerned parties.
