CPI(M) central committee member and state housing minister Gautam Deb on Wednesday submitted documents to state chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta, supporting his allegation that the Trinamul Congress pumped in crores of black money to meet the expenses of its election campaign. Mr Deb called on the state chief electoral
officer as he was asked to submit evidences to substantiate his charges against the main Opposition party in West Bengal. “He has given some documents and also some confidential papers in a sealed envelope which we would send to the Election Commission (EC) in New Delhi. The final decision will be taken by the EC after examining the documents,” Mr Gupta said.
Meanwhile, in his meeting with Mr Gupta, Mr Deb expressed his desire to meet the full bench of the EC which would be coming to the city on April 28. “Our party believes that it is an issue of national importance. There are lot of examples where the EC has taken suo-moto action. We feel that the Commission should have started an inquiry in this case earlier,” Mr Deb said.
