[1]In his death as in his life, Satya Sai Baba united king and commoner as politicians, industrialists, cricketers and celebrities queued up along with thousands of mourners at Puttaparthi on Monday to pay tribute to the spiritual guru.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, long-time devotees of the Baba, wept as they sat beside his body. The Union minister Mr Vilas Rao Deshmukh, a host of state ministers also made the pilgrimage to Prashanthi Nilayam, where the Baba’s body lay in state.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the UPA chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, the Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, the BJP leader, Mr L.K. Advani, among others will land at Puttaparthi to pay their respects.
The mortal remains of Baba will be kept for public darshan till 6 pm on Tuesday, when over one lakh devotees are expected to file past the body.
Sachin Tendulkar broke down while paying his last respects to the Baba on Monday. Accompanied
by wife, Dr Anjali, and friend, Mr V. Chamundeshwarnath, Sachin sat beside Baba’s body for around half-an-hour from 10.16 am.
