The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has referred the recommendations of the Shunglu Committee report to the Union home ministry for necessary action in the wake of the report’s findings on the alleged irregularities by various central departments in executing various infrastructure projects related to Commonwealth Games. The committee has faulted a host of central departments for cost over-runs, delays and mis-management of funds.
Government sources said that the ministry has received the committee’s recommendations concerning the role of the central departments and will be coordinating with ministries and departments concerned to examine the role played by them in the light of the committee’s findings.
These include departments like the CPWD and NDMC.
The sources said that the ministry has been asked to complete the action-taken-process within three months.
The ministry is expected to soon refer the matter to ministries and departments concerned asking them to furnish relevant information.
In case of any dispute arising out of the proposed MHA actions against the departments concerned, the PMO will have the final word, the sources disclosed.
In its third report on projects to upgrade city infrastructure, especially related to road and transport, the committee has noted there was no special preparation by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and blamed Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit for her decisions that led to the cost escalation in the CWG-related projects.
