Accessories, jumpsuits spell Day 5 elegance

ACCESSORIES TOOK centrestage once again at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011, on the morning of the last day. While Day 4’s accessory shows had seen some interesting variations, with Eina Ahluwalia putting a complete twist to the “feather-light” world of accessories by turning to domestic violence as a theme, the

designers on Day 5 preferred to go the tried and tested way. The result, however, was still pleasing high fashion. First up were collapsible backpacks, bags and clutches by Prabhat Kumar in reptilian prints and laser cuts. Then it was all about wooden and leather clutches in all sizes and shapes — whether rectangular, oval or pillbox — in Rachna Reddy’s Global Gypsy collection.
From this delicate line, the shift to leading accessories designer Rina Shah’s polo-inspired creations was exciting and edgy. Rina’s line had totes, handbags, belts — all emblazoned with equestrian motifs, with calf and thigh-high bots creating quite an impression. Rina said it wasn’t just the motifs that were inspired by polo, The afternoon shows shifted the attention back to the clothes, with a combined showing by Atithi Gupta, Harangad Singh and V.J. Balhara. Atithi’s line was pretty enough, with tiny shift dresses and jumpsuits in pale pastel shades, with gentle gold embellishments at the throat. Harangad Singh continued the trend of quiet elegance with his very French line of dresses, combining shades like beige and pink to highly pretty effect. His penchant for the butterfly motif, seen in previous years, was evident in this line as well, with a beige A-line dress with black butterflies embroidered symmetrically down the back. The last few creations abruptly switched the colour palette to black and blue.
