Even though the special investigating team probing the Gujarat riots had submitted a final report to the Supreme Court on a complaint of the widow of slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, seeking probe into the role of state chief minister Narendra Modi, the top court on Tuesday gave the liberty to the SIT to probe the matter further after knowing the comments of amicus curiae on its report.
The copy of the report, filed in the sealed cover, was believed to have cleared Mr Modi of any charge of “criminality”, was supplied to senior advocate Raju Ramachandran, who is assisting the top court as amicus curiae in proper adjudication of the petition of Zakia, the widow of Ehsan Jafri.
Zakia Jafri had sought registration of FIR against Mr Modi and 59 other persons.
