Japanese ship freed by Somali pirates arrives in Kenya

A Japanese vessel freed by Somali pirates who captured it nearly five months ago arrived on Tuesday in the Kenyan port of Mombasa, an AFP correspondent said.

The 20-member Filipino crew was "in good health, but traumatised," said Andrew Mwangura of the East African seafarers assistance programme.

Pirates seized the ship on October 10 while it was transporting steel products off the Kenyan coast. It was released on February 25.

Japan in 2010 joined the anti-piracy patrols of foreign warships off the Somali coast, which the sea bandits have turned into dangerous route for vessels.
