The Delhi high court has restrained all the cable operators in the city from illegally telecasting the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 matches on their networks, as ESPN Software India (ESIPL), the exclusive telecast rights of the CWC possessor, filled a suit for permanent injunction upon them.
In its suit filed before the high court, ESIPL alleged that around 144 cable operators were taking illegal connections and accessing its signals without an authorised license from it.
The HC has also permitted ESIPL to act against all cable operators who are found using the feed without having official permission of ESPN, STAR Sports and Star Cricket.
The HC order states that anyone broadcasting ICC Cricket World Cup matches through illegal means will be held in contempt of court and liable for prosecution.
The high court made it clear that piracy would not be tolerated and a team of observers will be set up to make sure that piracy does not occur.
