The Maoists have decided to intensify their activities in Assam and other northeastern states through direct intervention and Upper Assam Leading Committee has been identified as its offshoot to rope in struggling forces in Assam.
Disclosing that Aditya Bora is one of the modules of Maoists in Assam, authoritative security sources told this newspaper that central committee of Maoists had once decided not to intervene directly in the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir. However, decision was reviewed recently and Maoist group decided to intervene directly in the northeastern states in view of the leading separatist outfits of the region entering in to cease-fire agreement with the government.
The arrest of Maoist leader Aditya Bora, and two of his aids — Trithraj Orang and Asik Sabar, alias Ajaya, — recently in Orissa has also revealed the agenda of Maoists in Assam and other northeastern states. Security sources said that their prime agenda is to rope in struggling forces of the state. The Maoists are suspected to have been trying to form an alliance with organisations of tea labourers and farmers in the state.
About those arrested, security sources said that before joining Maoist movement, Aditya Bora who hails from Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district was apprehend by Assam police for facilitating activities of outlawed Ulfa rebels. Though, he was not the member of the outfit.
