The Chhattisgarh government on Sunday decided to review its anti-Naxal strategy in view of the new tactic adopted by the Maoists recently to target senior administrative and police officers.
Chief minister, Mr Raman Singh, reviewed the security situation in the Naxal-infested areas in the state at a high level official meeting here following sudden spurt in incidents of abductions of policemen and senior civil servants by the red rebels in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring state of Orissa.
Barely a week after five jawans of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) walked free after spending 18 days in Maoist custody, young IAS officer, R.V.Krishna and junior engineer, Pabitra Mohan Majhi, were abducted by the rebels from Chitrokonda area in Orissa’s Malkangiri district on February 16.
Official sources said Mr Singh directed the police to take immediate measures to counter the Naxal’s new strategy of kidnapping senior government officers to put pressure on the state to abandon anti-Maoist operations.
