The CBI is likely to register a fresh FIR in connection with alleged irregularities committed in awarding Commonwealth games “village” contract by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
According to sources the agency is probing under what circumstances the private developer which constructed the Games village was given bail-out package of `700 crores by the DDA. The private builder was given the contract for constructing 1,168 flats in the village at a cost of over `1,000 crores.
But later, the company reportedly said it had no money due to recession and it was unable to continue with the construction of the village.
“The DDA then came to the rescue of the developer and bought 300 flats for `700 crores. The agency is probing whether the bail-out package was required or not,” sources added.
Besides, huge deviations were also made in purchase of air conditioners, furniture, kitchen equipment and creating temporary infrastructure inside the village by other agencies, sources said adding these are also being probed. It is expected that the agency may register a case also in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate has started probing alleged irregularities committed in awarding broadcast contract (worth `246 crores) for the Games given to a UK-based company by Prasar Bharti.
The CBI, which is already probing alleged irregularities committed in awarding broadcast contract, is likely to register a case in this regrad, sources added.
The CBI, which is probing various cases of corruption in the conduct of the Games, is likely to make significant arrests very soon on the basis of scrutiny of the call and the e-mail details of certain top brass of the Organising Committee, including its former chairman Suresh Kalmadi.
According to sources, the arrests are likely to made on the basis of scrutiny of certain email details only.
