The ruling CPI(M) and the Kerala Bar Council on Sunday demanded that the Supreme Court order a thorough inquiry into the charge by Congress MP K. Sudhakaran that an top court judge was allegedly bribed several years ago.
The allegation was described as serious by the CPI(M) whose chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan hoped the court will take a serious note of the charge after Mr Sudhakaran claimed that he was witness to the alleged bribing of an unnamed Supreme Court judge in a bar licence case.
While speaking at a public meeting organised at Kottarakkara in Kollam on Saturday, Mr Sudhakaran had said that he was witness to a judge being bribed.

Man kills 3 kids to settle scores with wife’s lover

Feb. 13: In a gruesome incident, a man in a Chhattisgarh village brutally killed three children to settle scores with their uncle, who eloped with his wife, the police said on Sunday.
Manoj Suryavansi, 40, a resident of Kariapada village in Bilashpur district, allegedly abducted the children from their school, took them to the nearby field, flung them on the ground, and then strangulated them to death. Bodies of the siblings, Vijay, 5, Sakhi, 7 and Ajey, 9, were recovered from the field on Saturday, the police said.

Mughal Gardens open tomorrow
New Delhi, Feb. 13: An exquisite combination of flora and fauna, offering multiples hues in the backdrop of soothing green, will be open for public viewing at the famous Mughal Gardens in the Rashtrapati Bhavan from Tuesday.
Except for Mondays, on account of maintenance, the gardens will be open on all days from 10 am to 5 pm from February 15 to March 16. No entry will be allowed in the lawns after 4 pm.
Visitors will not be permitted to carry water bottles, briefcases, handbags, purses, umbrella, cameras, radios, cell phones, arms and ammunition and eatables for security reasons.
The gardens have flowers like roses, lilies and tulips, while lotus-shaped fountains and blue water canals add to the attraction. —PTI

6 Maoists arrested in C’garh

Feb. 13: Security personnel on Sunday arrested six Maoists, including a woman cadre, during search operations at Bhendra in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Kanker district.
According to the police, acting on a tip-off, a team of jawans of BSF and district force (DF) of the Chhattisgarh police raided a Maoist camp in the forested village and arrested the six rebels.
“A gun and huge quantities of explosives were seized from them. The militants were planning an ambush on the security personnel in the area,” local sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Anil Kumar Soni said.
