Serious differences over appointment of amicus curiae have apparently cropped up between two IPS officials, Karnail Singh of Delhi police and Satish Varma of the Gujarat police, both members of the special investigation team (SIT) probing the controversial encounter of Ishrat and three others.
Mr Varma has now approached Gujarat high court submitting that the senior most member of the team, Mr Singh, had not consulted other members regarding amicus curiae’s appointment.
In his application, he has urged the court to hear him before passing any order on Singh’s petition. According to him, if there is any legal point, it can be discussed with lawyers of the Gujarat government.
A division bench of the high court has scheduled the matter for hearing on January 28 and directed all the three IPS officials to remain present in the court. Meanwhile, no member of the SIT could be contacted despite several attempts.
