The Congress on Thursday chose to remain silent over attacks on telecom minister Kapil Sibal by CAG and PAC on the issue of the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
“A procedure is on-going. The CAG’s view-point has been presented. The government’s view is also in the public domain and the PAC has a view on it... With all three views now in the public domain, let appropriate bodies decide,” party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.
The CAG and PAC have criticised Mr Sibal for his attack on the national audit body and its findings in 2G spectrum allocation.
The Congress had earlier come out in strong defence of Mr Sibal slamming the CAG findings a few days back.
In contrast, Mr Singhvi on Thursday reacted cautiously to repeated questions on whether Mr Sibal was correct in his criticism of the CAG report and whether what Mr Sibal said was the party’s view.
“That chapter is over now...It is unnecessary to make any more comments on it. Views of all the parties are in the public space and a decision would be taken,” was his refrain when asked whether it was correct for a Union minister to slam the report of a constitutional body. He said, “PAC has made a unanimous comment. Why should anybody say anything and queer the pitch. Whatever we had to say on the issue in the public space, we have already said.” In the PAC meeting held on Wednesday, a senior Congress member had raised objections when members were critical of the attack by telecom minister on the CAG.
