The CBI has started probing as how the estimated budget of `1,000 crores for upgradation and construction of five stadia for the Commonwealth Games, crossed the limit of `2,460 crores.
The agency is likely to register an FIR in this connection very soon.
According to sources the estimated budget of `1,000 crores for upgradation and construction of five stadia crossed the limit of `2,460 crores, which forced agencies to scan the documents pertaining to the contracts awarded to various contractors by the rganising Committee and other government agencies concerned.
The agencies have also decided to question certain members of the Organising Committee and private contractors in this regard, sources added.
“Probe agencies have also found that, in certain cases, vendors to supply the equipment were chosen according to preferences of the Organising Committee members and construction agencies, while the list of approved vendors was overlooked,” sources said.

Shunglu panel seeks public info on scam

Jan. 13: The pm-appointed Shunglu Committee, investigating financial irregularities and other corruption cases in Commonwealth Games related projects, is now seeking information from the public in connection with the alleged recruitment scam in the Organising Committee.
Meanwhile, the Shunglu Committee earlier alleged that the Comptoller and Auditor General, which is also probing the Games related projects, has not shared some key documents related to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main Games venue, and S.P. Mukherjee aquatic complex, together worth about `1,200 crores. However, the CAG officials on Thursday maintained that the Shunglu Committee officials are in touch with the CAG and information on investigation has been shared.
