The first day of the New Year was sunny and clear but chilly winds kept the weather cold. The minimum temperature was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius while the maximum in the last 24 hours was 17.8 degrees which was notches below normal for this time of the season.
However, slight fog was witnessed in the morning hours but the day turned sunny later.
The minimum temperature on January first last year was 6.6 degree Celsius.
The capital on Wednesday had witnessed the coldest day of the season so far when day temperature plummeted to 15.2 degree Celsius, seven degrees below normal.
Overcast conditions had been prevailing in the city for the past couple of days with traces of rain making the weather damp. The weatherman has predicted fog on Sunday morning while the temperature could oscillate between 7 and 19 degrees Celsius.

Driver shot at by duo for refusing lift
New Delhi, Jan. 1: A driver was shot at by two unidentified men in east Delhi for refusing them lift in his employer’s car, the police said on Saturday.
Deepak Singh, 30, was waiting for his employer outside an apartment in Mandawali at 9 pm on Friday when the men came asked him to give them a lift in the car. When Singh refused, he was shot at by the duo, the police said, adding the victim resides in R.K. Puram in south Delhi.
The police reached the spot after receiving a call from one of the locals and took Singh to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. His condition is stable, the police said, adding a case of attempt to murder has been registered. —PTI
