The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to withdraw criminal cases against 18 people, including a BSP leader, involved in luhari killing, official sources said.
UP law department special secretary Rajendra Kumar has directed the Muzaffarnagar district magistrate to withdraw the case against 18 people, including BSP leader Swami Prasad Morya and the then PRO of a minister, Tejpal Singh, under sections 302 (murder), and 149 (rioting), they said.
A man identified as Akhtar was beaten to death by some men over an old enmity at Luhari khurd village in the district on July 20, 2006. Police had then filed a case against 18 people in this connection.
Earlier this month a local court had rejected the state government's plea to withdraw a criminal case against 25 BSP activists, including BSP MP Kadir Rana.
