Anguished over the stalemate in parliament over demand of JPC into the 2G spectrum scam, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday said she would “do anything” to ensure that it does not spill over to the Budget Session.
“I have already done once and I would do again anything to run Parliament. I would do,” she told reporters here when asked if she would appeal to the Opposition and the government to ensure that the logjam is not carried over to the next Session.
The Speaker was talking to the media on the sidelines of a programme organised by NHRC to observe Human Rights Day.
The logjam over the demand for a JPC probe has stalled both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for 21 consecutive working days with both the Houses again being adjourned due to pandemonium during the day.
Ms Kumar appealed to the Opposition to allow functioning of Parliament on Monday, the last day of the current session, saying she would be happy if this happens. “I am very anguished,” she said.

Dec. 10: As there was no let-up on the demand for a joint parliamentary probe (JPC) by the Opposition and with the government showing no sign of relenting on its refusal for it, the functioning of Parliament was disrupted for the 21st consecutive day. With just one more day for the Winter Session of Parliament to get over, the BJP has decided to take the battle to the streets by launching public protests.
The moment the session began in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar read the obituaries for two former members. Thereafter the House began to witness what has now become a regular affair — — Opposition members trooping into the well of the House demanding a JPC into the 2G spectrum allocation scam. Some had placards in their hand that read, “We want justice” and “We want JPC”.
The House was earlier adjourned till 12 noon only to be adjourned further till 3.30 pm. Even at 3.30 pm, when it was expected that private members bill would be taken up, the House could not proceed as it got submerged in the noise.
