Government agencies will have to go in for a strict security audit of their websites on a regular basis following the recent hacking of the CBI website, according to new guidelines issued by the Centre on Monday.
“We have issued new guidelines today. The state governments and central government will have to get their websites audited and upgrade their firewalls,” said the minister of state for IT, Sachin Pilot. The minister said that it would be better not to host a “vulnerable” website if it is not audited by experts. He said that by examining the logs, analysts will soon be able to say from where exactly the attack took place. “A self-regulatory mechanism is in place. Now it will be enforced strongly,” he said.
The minister had held a meeting with the top officials from various departments on Sunday to trace from where the attack took place.
Some nations are particularly developing capabilities to launch cyber attacks on other countries.
In January, former national security adviser, M.K. Narayanan had alleged that Chinese hackers had tried to break into computers in his office and some other government departments.
