Eminent lawyer and sitting Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Singhvi is back in the team of AICC spokesperson, well-placed sources in the party made clear on Monday night.
Mr Singhvi, who is also a chairman of the AICC’s legal and human rights department, was virtually suspended for some time as the AICC spokesperson following the strong complaint by the Kerala Congress Committee for his appearing in a lottery case. The Kerala Congress leaders viewed that this would weaken the party’s interests and its fight against the LDF government.
But on Monday, AICC sources made it clear that Mr Singhvi is reinstated.
The AICC team of spokespersons consist of Mr Mukul Wasnik, also a Union minister, Ms Jayanti Natarajan, Dr Shakeel Ahmed, Mr Manish Tewari and Mr Mohan Prakash. The media department is headed by Mr Janardan Dwivedi.
Kerala’s Congress unit has already indicated that it is unlikely to pursue its complaint against Mr Singhvi following the party’s victory in the local body polls. “There is nothing personal against Singhvi. He had taken a position against the party stand in Kerala,” Kerala Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala had said.
