If you look beyond the chaos at the overcrowded Metro station of Rajiv Chowk, you’ll find that the place has gradually turned out to be a perfect “chill out zone” for busy Delhiites. Metro stations like Inderlok, Rajiv Chowk and Kashmiri Gate with the best cafeterias are turning into small corners for a hot cafe and stimulating conversation.
Now as Mandi House is reportedly all set to be the next Metro hub after Rajiv Chowk, seems like a quick date is just a token away. “I often meet my friends on my way back from work at Rajiv Chowk. You can see many youngsters hanging around at that station. They have a Café Coffee Day and a Nirula’s too. Since Rajiv Chowk is the intersection point for all Metros, it’s a great place to chill. You needn’t get out of the Metro station as it’s like a hangout zone in itself,” says Sneha Singh, a media professional.
It’s not just friends who are cashing in on the facilities at Metro stations, but young lovers too are finding them perfect places for secret dates. “I often hang out at Mc Donald’s in one of the Metro stations. These outlets save time, which was earlier spent in looking for a place to chill out and in commuting to and fro the Metro station. Since my boyfriend and I live closeby, Metro stations are our new dating hubs. You can just board the Metro from your respective stations, spend quality time together and go back home. And the best part about being in the Metro is that your parents won’t get suspicious,” quips Radhika, a college student.
It’s interesting how the city has adapted itself to this new trend. An official from one of the cafeterias tells us, “Both Nirula’s and Café Coffee Day at most of the stations remain crowded. This place is always buzzing with people. It’s convenient and saves a lot of time.”
