A 25-year-old software engineer was shot dead by a gang of unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in northwest Delhi’s Saraswati Vihar on Sunday night.
The police said the deceased, identified as Prateek Trikha, was on way to his Rajnagar home after attending a friend’s wedding reception in neighbouring Ashok Vihar when the two unidentified men on a motorcycle intercepted him.
“Trikha had just reached a temple in his Honda City car when two men on a motorcycle waylaid him. They dragged him out of the car at gun point, robbed his valuables and shot him twice on his chest and stomach when he attempted to resist them,” a senior police official said.
The police said Trikha, who worked at a software firm in Noida, was shot twice by the motorcycle-borne assailants who left their motorcycle behind and fled the spot in his car.
“The motorcycle used by the accused has been impounded and we are trying to establish the vehicle’s ownership. It might be possible that the motorcycle used in the crime was stolen. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter,” the officer added.
The police was intimated about the incident by a local watchman at 12.45 am. According to police, Trikha was barely 500 metres away from his residence at Rajanagar’s C-block. Local residents, who witnessed the snatching incident, rushed Trikha to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the police added.
He is survived by his father S.K. Trikha, who works at the Oriental Bank’s Karol Bagh branch, his wife, mother and a younger brother. No one has been arrested in connection with the case so far.
