Even as the relief and rescue operations at the Lalita Park building collapse site completed on Friday evening, the MCD has decided to give more time to its vigilance department for completing an inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, a team of officials of the MCD on Friday went to the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, for discussions on the structural safety survey that is to be conducted in three months.
The MCD indicated that no drastic action may be taken when the three-day period for evacuating the 38 “dangerous” buildings expired. The agency said that people were being persuaded to leave the house for their safety. A group of residents of the “dangerous” buildings met the MCD officials on Friday seeking an extension of the deadline. The MCD, in all likelihood, will not implement the eviction plan, even as a team of experts from the CBRI is likely to reach Delhi on Saturday.
On the other hand, chairman of works committee of the MCD, Jagdish Mamgain, has written to the Delhi police commissioner seeking his help in checking illegal construction.
Meanwhile, Trinamul Congress leader Sisir Kumar Adhikari visited the site on Friday and distributed blankets to the victims on behalf of his party chief and railway minister Mamata Banerjee.
