It was only recently that Katy Perry flaunted talons with hubby Russell Brand’s face, giving nail art a whole new meaning. Although, nail art has been ruling for a while now, there are a volley of trendy and wacky styles, which are catching the fancy of fashion freaks. From 3D design patterns, brush art to funky nail piercing, nail artistes are coming up with shimmering fun options to give nails a fabulous finish.
Says Simar Sukijia of Simar’s Nail bar, “Nail art has become a fad now among all age groups. The most popular one is 3D art as this lasts for a longer period of time. It’s done with acrylic powder, which swell on nails. Then we colour and embellish it for a perfect 3D effect. Nowadays, Japanese 3D nail designs with Hello Kitty and floral motifs are really popular. Motifs keep changing according to the occasion. Around Halloween trendy skulls and skeletons in 3D are in vogue.”
Another sensation is Brush art, where nails are painted and decorated with studs and sparkles. Don’t worry, if you have short nails, you can also try nail and toe nail extension. Many also colour the extended part with checks, stripes and polka patterns enhanced with glitters and sparkles. For figure prints on nails, Simar says, “We can also paint face replicas on the nails, much like Katy Perry’s, but on demand.”
Delhi-based Harpreet Davyal Suri, recently got her nail extension and adorned them with flowers and Swarovski. She says, “My nails make heads turn and I love the attention. As my sister’s cocktail party is around, I plan to go for a 3D design in blue to match my evening dress.”
Another popular one is nail piercing, which is usually coupled with 3D art for a cool look. “People go for colourful rings and studs to go with their footwear, bag or outfits,” says Pooja Garg of Kiana Nail Art Academy.
