Fitness is a burning craze, and no, we don’t need any surveys to tell us that. The seventeen slim sauna belt messages in a day are enough proof, mostly when after having driven you to a violent fit of flinging your phone, you embarrassingly wonder, “How did they figure!” But soon you might have to find yourself a new daily reminder of your stately shape, as TRAI might put a permanent ban on these telemarketing calls and messages.
Mitushi Verma, who works as a client-servicing director for a leading ad firm, says it’s a fabulous idea. “In a world where you are anyway fighting to get a few minutes to yourself, these calls and messages really don’t help. I am glad that finally this will be happening,” she told us.
Arundhati Grover Jain, a senior consultant with a management firm, likes the idea of not having a rude awakening by loud messages about Scientology, but she is also concerned about the loss of business for those who’ll lose a flourishing database. “One wouldn’t mind these calls so much if they didn’t always come at the wrong time, like late at night or in the wee hours of the morning. Mostly their database is incomplete and the manner of speaking is worse than a robot’s,” she rants.
However, these messages sometimes do end up proving useful, especially when it comes to loans and stocks. Abhinav Dasgupata, an executive at a leading private sector bank, thinks that a blanket ban doesn’t make much sense. “I have received a lot of offers via these channels which I would not have known of otherwise. As a mobile phone user, therefore, I would not support a blanket ban and would look at the option of blocking promotional calls/messages from certain product segments only,” he says.
