After spitting at the video camera during the Bombay high court trial on Tuesday, 26/11 convicted terrorist Ajmal Kasab again continued to throw tantrums on Wednesday when he refused to appear before the video-conferencing camera. This comes after the court on Tuesday observed that Kasab was not required to sit in front of the camera against his will.
Meanwhile, his advocate Amin Solkar complained to the high court that the Arthur Road Jail authorities did not allow him to meet Kasab because he reached the prison after 6.30 pm. On Tuesday, after Kasab refused to appear before the camera post recess, the bench had ordered the securitymen to take Kasab back to his cell and asked Mr Solkar to meet him in the evening.
“I was a bit late due to the traffic and could not reach the place at the scheduled time,” Mr Solkar said.
The high court has now asked special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam to speak to the jail authorities and sort out the issue.
“We respect the rules and regulations, but as a special case in this confirmation trial, the advocate can be allowed some concessions,” observed the court.
Mr Nikam informed the court that he had spoken to the jail superintendent on Tuesday, however, Mr Solkar had not confirmed if he was going to meet Kasab in the evening.
Also Mr Solkar did not call him when the authorities did not allow him to meet Kasab, Mr Nikam said. The defence advocate, however, claimed that he thought he would be allowed to meet Kasab once inside the jail.
