The CPI(M) on Sunday alleged that international reactionary forces were collaborating with anti-Left Front forces to prevent the spread of Left movement in India.
These forces are also engaged in creating unrest in West Bengal and undermining the unity of the state, CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose said without taking any name at a meeting held to observe the 91st foundation day of the undivided Communist Party of India.
Mr Bose, who had alleged in the past that the Trinamul Congress joined hands with the Maoists to target CPI(M) workers, said, “Such killings take place everyday. Even yesterday one of our party supporters was killed at Balarmpur in Purulia district.”

Security guard commits suicide at Bansal house

Oct. 17: A security guard posted at the official residence of water resources minister P.K. Bansal allegedly shot himself dead on Sunday. He used to head the minister’s security guards. According to the investigating officers, the victim, identified as Shamling, had prolonged depression. The police said the deceased was posted for the minister’s security on deputation from the Meghalaya Armed Police. The initial medical examination of the body revealed that he allegedly shot himself in the head with his service gun at the 6, Ashoka Road residence of Mr Bansal.

Maya to meet PM today for flood relief

Oct. 17: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati is to meet the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday to seek a special package for flood-hit districts of the state.
Ms Mayawati would be meeting the Prime Minister after a long gap of more than a year, as she had met Dr Manmohan Singh in July 2009 to demand a special package to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the state. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister had skipped even the National Development Council meeting this year and sent one of her ministerial colleague in place who had read out her speech.

Geelani is re-elected Hurriyat chief
Srinagar, Oct. 17: Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been re-elected as the chairman of his faction of the Hurriyat Conference for a third consecutive three-year term.
Mr Geelani was elected to the post unopposed during Majlis-e-Shoura (advisory council) meeting here on Saturday evening, a Hurriyat spokesman said.
The 82-year-old hawk was first elected as chairman of the hardline faction in 2004, a year after engineering a vertical split in the undivided Hurriyat over the alleged participation of the Peoples Conference, one of the constituents in the 2002 Assembly elections.
He was re-elected to the post unopposed in 2007.
