According to reports, scientists have developed a mobile phone technology, which can tell if a caller is happy, angry, bored or sad.
“EmotionSense” speech recognition system will transform how psychologists study emotions, moods and social behaviour. So, you can now figure out if your friends are actually as happy as they may sound when you call them. Technology sure comes at a price. While it thrills some, how many of us are actually ready for such an invasion of privacy?
“What? A technology which can reveal my mood to the caller? I would never appreciate something as silly as this. Why should my callers know how I’m feeling at any given time?” says Shweta, a call centre employee.
For those who have to deal with unwanted work-related calls all day, seems like technology is far from being a boon, in fact it is a threat. Shares Meetu, a young professional, “I’ll be totally messed up if one of my colleagues has this application on his phone. It’s cool, but quite irritating as you can never be your real self. You’ll always have to pretend to be happy even if you hate the person, just because you know you’re being watched.”
So, while someone else plays God, the person on the other side of the phone will always have to pretend. Interestingly, reports further suggest that scientists hope to fit the technology into standard mobile phones to carry out a wider research to discover what “makes people tick”.
For 23-year-old techno-freak Sumit Kaushik such a discovery is exciting but has some drawbacks. “This example just goes on to say how we are falling into the trap of technology. Soon technology will be controlling us. While I can tell if my caller is sulking, he can sense that I don’t like talking to him,” quips Sumit.
