UP chief minister Mayawati said on Friday that the police force in Uttar Pradesh would remain on high alert until the concerned parties sought a stay on the Allahabad high court verdict on the Babri title suit.
“I have directed all top officials in the state that security will remain on high alert and the deployment of forces will not be reduced unless the aggrieved parties seek a stay from the top court,” she said at a press conference here on Friday.
Assuring the minorities of full security, the chief minister said that there was no need for any section of the society to get anxious in her regime.
“I have learnt from the media that the Sunni Waqf Board and the Hindu Mahasabha are planning to challenge the verdict in the apex court. The high court has also directed maintenance of status quo for three months at the Ayodhya site. I want to remind the Centre that it is solely responsible for ensuring the security of the disputed site. If any kind of activity takes place there, the Centre would be directly responsible for it,” she said.
Ms Mayawati further warned of strict action against any attempt to vitiate the atmosphere after the Ayodhya verdict.
The chief minister also lauded the media for showing restraint and added that it was mainly because of this that harmony had not been disturbed in the country.
